About The Exams

The SAT

The SAT exam is a standardized test used by most colleges and universities to assess students’ preparedness for college. The SAT exam consists of 4 sections: Reading, Writing, Math Non-Calculator, and Math Calculator as well as an optional essay. The Reading and Writing sections of the SAT exam are multiple choice, while both math sections have multiple choice and grid-in questions. The test is administered 7 times per year in March, May, June, August, October, November, and December.

The ACT

The ACT exam is a standardized test accepted by all universities and colleges that require an admissions test as part of their application process. The ACT test consists of 4 multiple choice sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science as well as an optional writing section. The test is administered 7 times per year in February, April, June, July (except in CA and NY), September, October, and December.

Our test prep program consists of over 50 hours of targeted prep, tutoring, and problem solving strategies that are designed to help students dramatically improve their score on the ACT exam.

  • Twelve, 75-90 minute ACT tutoring lessons are split between Math, Verbal, and Science Reasoning and are specifically tailored to each student based on his or her strengths and weaknesses

  • Ten hours of diagnostic SAT testing are reviewed and analyzed by our experts

  • Over 25 hours of additional ACT practice homework is included in the materials

Hourly Instruction

Hourly Tutoring: For students looking for an alternative to the LEARNING SHACK, Newport Beach SAT and ACT test course packages, we also offer hourly rates of instruction for the SAT exam and ACT exam. Our hourly rates vary depending on the subject matter, number of sessions and location of the tutoring. We do offer discounts for tutoring package bookings in advance or multiple hours in the same week booked in advance. Hourly tutoring is frequently selected by students who simply need a couple of hours of additional tutoring in a particular area of the SAT or ACT.

We are also happy to do multiple hour blocks of tutoring if we have enough notice (ask about discounts on multiple hour sessions!), and students should specify the area of need so that instructors can supply the relevant materials.
